Havanas
are almost totally maintenance free. A good brushing once or twice
a week with a rubber brush and a rub down with a chamois cloth plus
a good diet will keep your baby in good condition.
Of course, on occasion they may need a bath but
as a rule they are very clean cats. I like to rub the coat down with
a waterless shampoo. If you are bathing for a show, do this Wednesday
or Thursday so the coat has time to settle back down before the show--you
don't want a fly away or dry looking coat.
A good diet is very important. I feed Nutro and/or
Science Diet dry and 9-Lives, Fancy Feast and Sheba canned food. If
they should stop eating for any reason, give a mixture of baby cereal,
baby meat and baby corn. If this doesn't entice them to eat, then
it is probably time to see a vet.
Havanas do like to eat so you may not be able to
leave dry food down all the time. You do not want the cat getting
over weight--Bigger is not better in the case of Havanas. They should
have a very swelt body. If you feel the backbone, you know they are
too thin so feed a little more..
A little vitamin C crushed up in their food is just
as good for your cat as it is for you.
